A year ago, Belgium had to make do at the European Track Cycling Championships in Ghent with barely 1 title and 4 medals, but in Fiorenzuola d’Arda (Ita) the Belgians took revenge in a clever way.
The goldcrests par excellence were juniors Marith Vanhove and Katrijn De Clercq, who together won gold in the team race and each separately became European champions in the 500 meters (Vanhove) and points race (De Clercq).
The other European titles came from promise Jules Hesters on the elimination and Noah Vandenbranden on the kilometer in the juniors. The latter added a silver medal on the scratch.
For the rest, there was also medal for Julie De Wilde (bronze in the chase), Fabio Van den Bossche (bronze in the omnium), Tuur Dens (bronze in the scratch) and Shari Bossuyt (silver in the points race).
For Bossuyt there was perhaps even more in it, but she fell on the penultimate day and broke her collarbone.
