Belgium tightens rules: corona pass in catering, mouth caps return

In Belgium, a corona ticket must be shown in the entire catering industry from Monday. In addition, Belgians must again wear face masks in public indoor spaces from Friday, Prime Minister De Croo announced in a press conference about the rising corona figures in the country.

De Croo spoke of “an autumn wave” that makes it necessary to tighten up the corona rules, which will apply for at least three months. The obligation to show a corona pass in the catering industry already applied in Brussels. Wallonia had previously agreed to the measure from 1 November, which will therefore also apply in the Flemish catering industry, the broadcaster writes. GARDEN. The pass must also be shown in gyms.

Staff of catering and fitness centers are also required to wear a face mask.

‘Severe measures not necessary’

“The moment we are again flooded by infections, we have to erect higher protection walls,” said De Croo. He also called on Belgians to work from home as much as possible again. Stricter measures are not necessary, according to him, because about 85 percent of Belgians are fully vaccinated.

De Croo: “Last year we would have shut down certain things in the same situation. Now we keep everything open.”

The number of infections in Belgium increased by 75 percent last week, with an average of about 5300 new infections per day. The number of hospital admissions increased by 69 percent (102 admissions per day).
