Belgium. Ryanair pilots will go on strike on July 23 and 24

Belgian airline Ryanair pilots have announced another strike in recent weeks, the RTBF station informed. The action is scheduled for the weekend of July 23-24. At the same time, pilots of the Irish carrier in France are also going to strike.

A three-day strike by Ryanair’s pilots and cabin crew, who operate from Charleroi and Zaventem airports, took place on June 24-26. According to media reports, 300 flights of this carrier were canceled at that time. Protesters complained about poor working conditions and wages below Belgian minimum wage.

According to information from trade unions, the protest brought nothing, so on 23 and 24 July the pilots will strike again. It is not clear for now whether or not cabin crew will join them.

Ryanair pilots’ strike in Belgium

As the Belgian public broadcaster RTBF noted on Monday, Belgian Ryanair pilots will join a strike planned by their French colleagues at the same time. “The reason is the non-compliance with the law and the arrogant attitude of the company’s management,” Didier Lebbe, the Irish airline’s cabin crew union secretary told De Standaard.

“The climate has deteriorated significantly since the last strike,” Lebbe said, adding that the attitude of the company’s management was “arrogant and contemptuous”.

There was also a three-day strike by Brussels Airlines pilots and cabin crew at the end of June. They complained of work overload and demanded higher wages. Finally, an agreement was reached last week between the management of the Belgian carrier and the trade unions. The airlines agreed to cancel 675 flights in July and August to ease the workload.
