In Belgium, for the third day in a row, an armed soldier Jürgen Konings is being sought, who left the army camp at the beginning of the week, stealing and carrying weapons. The 46-year-old soldier has left several letters threatening the government and Belgium’s chief virologist, who has now been taken to a safe place.

The fleeing soldier has previously been on the Belgian terrorist watch list because of his far-right political views.

The 12,000-hectare national park in the Limburg region of Belgium, where Konings may be hiding, is currently being searched. The situation there is reminiscent of a war zone – since the very morning, vans have arrived, full of police officers, dogs, special units arrive, everyone is armed. Reinforcements from German special forces are also expected.

Weapons and even a grenade launcher were found in a car that Konings left before entering the forest. It is believed that Koning, who is an experienced soldier, is still armed with a machine gun and a pistol and has a body armor.
