Belgium in “maximum phase of epidemic” according to barometer project of corona commissioner Pedro Facon

The levels are proposed by corona commissioner Pedro Facon. The draft barometer should set clear milestones for the measures to be taken to contain the epidemic. According to the model currently on the table and with the latest figures from Sciensano, the third stage of the risk level has been reached.

Level 1 assumes fewer than 65 hospital admissions per day and fewer than 300 intensive care beds. Level 2 is activated between 65 and 149 admissions per day and up to 500 beds in intensive care. If these figures are exceeded, level 3 is activated, which corresponds to the current situation.

A distinction is made between indoor and outdoor activities, and between activities: seated and passive audience (theatre or cinema), seated and active audience (indoor football or first-class competition) or active audience (dancing indoors or outdoor festival). The measures are linked to the type of activities and the level of the virus, such as mandatory ventilation, a corona pass or limiting the number of visitors. The measures have yet to be discussed within the Consultation Committee, in consultation with the various sectors concerned.

The aim is for the barometer to become a real roadmap to avoid yo-yo management, but it would not become a purely mechanical tool. “There must always be room for political considerations within the Consultation Committee”, the Corona Commissariat clarifies.
