A total of 184,320 doses of Pfizer vaccines against COVID-19 have been donated to Honduras by the Belgian government through the COVAX mechanism. This delivery arrived in the country with partial deliveries on 13, 14, 15 and 16 September.

Amalia Ayala, PAHO / WHO Family, Health Promotion, and Life Course Advisor in Honduras said that “we are celebrating the 11th wellness week where all the countries of the Americas carry out health promotion activities, this year with the motto “Our neighborhood, our health”, so together with the Ministry of Health and local authorities we are organizing health fairs in different regions to promote vaccination, physical activity and providing comprehensive medical care to the population. But the most important thing is the participation of the population, who go to health facilities to get the vaccine they need and to vaccinate their children against Covid-19 “.
“Vaccines have been shown to save lives. Over the years, diseases have been eliminated thanks to vaccines, we have seen that with the increase in vaccination against COVID-19 the number of serious cases and deaths has decreased ”, concluded Dr. Ayala.
PAHO, in its 120th anniversary celebration, will continue to promote equity strategies to ensure universal health access and coverage, as well as resilient health systems, as we embark on recovery and rebuilding after the COVID-19 pandemic. This is why PAHO reiterates to the government of Honduras its commitment to continue working side by side with the Ministry of Health for the benefit of the health of the Honduran population.
The Director of the Management Planning and Evaluation Unit of UPEG thanked the Pan American Health Organization PAHO / WHO and the Government of Belgium for this important donation through the COVAX mechanism which guarantees equal access to vaccines in our country. .
