BRUSSELS, 6th September / WAM / Belgium pledged during the African Climate Summit in Nairobi to provide 24 million euros for climate projects in Burundi, Guinea, Mali, Senegal and Tanzania in 2023 and 2024.
The Belgian Foreign Ministry said that the projects will contribute to adaptation to climate change in agriculture, sustainable cities and biodiversity.
Belgium also welcomed the organization of the Africa Climate Summit as “a signal of African leadership in addressing the existential climate crisis in a spirit of collective action that prioritizes a solutions-oriented approach”..
The African Climate Summit is the first climate summit to focus on the African continent. Its proceedings took place from Monday to Wednesday, as African leaders, UN representatives, global officials, non-governmental organizations and the private sector gathered to address Africa’s climate challenges. The summit ends with the ‘Nairobi Declaration’, which will set climate goals and serve as a guide for the upcoming COP28 climate conference.
