Belgians Receiving Cash Gifts: Do You Have to Declare Them to the Tax Authorities?

A survey by the market research company Ipsos shows that almost four in ten Belgians have received money as an end-of-year gift. Now the question arises: do you have to inform the tax authorities that you have received cash? And can it collect taxes on it?

Why is this important?

We pay less and less with cash, but some traditions still remain. For example, a significant number of Belgians still give cash as gifts during the end-of-year period.

In the news: 38 percent of our compatriots received cash as a gift during the past year-end period. This is evident from a survey by Ipsos among 1,600 Belgians.
