Belgians pay a lot for mobile services compared to neighboring countries – IT Pro – News

I don’t fully agree with that. My example here is Free Mobile in France. I have had this subscription since 2014 and have taken it with me to South Africa (2.5 years) and Belgium (where I have lived for half a year now).

I pay amazingly little for what I get in return. I pay just under EUR 20 per month for 150 GB in France (4/5G, depending on coverage) and 25 GB in Europe (and over 70 other destinations*) on 4G .

In the beginning (2014/2015) it was not very good, because 3G and then 4G coverage was only perfect in big cities and they didn’t have many own masts yet, you were soon at reduced speed on the Orange Network if you were outside. the big cities came. Now that is really different and if I compare the situation as it is now with other references I have in the Netherlands and Belgium, Belgium is by far the worst off, after which the Netherlands is somewhere between my experience with Free Mobile and the providers in Belgium.

The cheapest subscription with Free Mobile in France is 2 euros per month. SMS and MMS fully included, 50 MB (yes, Megabyte) and 2 hours of calling. However, I don’t know anyone who uses this or would like to use it at all.

There is a caveat, though, which is that I am actually breaching my contract by no longer living in France. I need a French address and a French account to use this.
