Belgian tax authorities demand hundreds of millions from Ahold – media

(ABM FN-Dow Jones) The Belgian tax authorities demand 380 million euros from Delhaize. De Tijd wrote this on Wednesday.

According to the newspaper, that payment is necessary because Ahold took over the American Delhaize stores without paying groping. However, the Belgian tax authorities disagree with the external valuation report that Ahold used for this. According to the tax authorities, the shops are worth more than was paid for them.

For this valuation report, Ahold has put to work a reputable expert that it claims to be. However, Ahold declined to name this party against ABM Financial News on Wednesday.

An amount of 380 million euros corresponds to almost four times the profit of the Delhaize stores, De Tijd wrote.

“Ahold Delhaize acquired the Delhaize stores without a book profit, which is remarkable. However, it is far from certain that the tax authorities will be able to prove that the stores are worth more than the amount determined at the time,” analyst Hans D wrote. Haese of ING in a reaction to the news on Wednesday.

Ahold already mentioned the conflict with the Belgian tax authorities in its 2020 annual report. This also refers to a maximum amount of 380 million euros. However, Ahold disagrees with the reading of the Belgian tax authorities and will oppose “firmly”. A defense has therefore been filed and Ahold believes it has several legal and other options to defend itself.

Shares of Ahold Delhaize fell 0.3 percent to 26.47 euros on Wednesday.

Update: to add reaction ING and rate.
