Lucas Henveaux, even better than in Fukuoka?
If the two freestyle swimming specialists will still have a little time to acclimatize to their life 5,000km from Brussels, Lucas Henveaux will not have time to fool around since on Sunday, from 9:30 a.m. local time, he will enter competing in his favorite distance, the 400m freestyle, the same one in which he won a bronze medal at the Euro in Bucharest. A performance which brought him a little further into a new dimension on the international scene and which can allow him to nourish great ambitions, especially since, last month, he again improved the Belgian record of the distance (as well as that of the 200m freestyle).
But his program will be tough since, the next day, he will be involved in the 200m freestyle series while he will do the same in the 800m freestyle series on Tuesday. In Fukuoka, the Crisnéan managed to secure two places in the semi-final and, given his progress in recent months, he has everything in hand to do as well… or even better!
Will Grace Palmer be able to confirm her enormous progress?
The other big Huy-Waremmian asset could well be called Grace Palmer. The 200m breaststroke specialist has worked extensively on her endurance in recent months by competing in long distances in freestyle. A profitable choice which relaunched her after a good year and a half complicated and which allowed her, even if it was ultimately a small disappointment, to obtain a superb 4th place in the 200m breaststroke during the last championships of Europe juniors. This time, Modavienne will try to find a place on the world stage, but among the big boys.
Will Alisée Pisane’s experience help her turn a corner?
Last July, in Japan, the Villersoise astonished, taking 18th place in the 1,500m freestyle but, above all, 14th in the 800m with, in the end, the Belgian record for the distance. She will compete, once again, in these two events. “This experience brought me a lot of things in Bucharest (Editor’s note: where she took fourth place in the 1,500m freestyle). I tell myself that this is also what will happen here at the world championships. My form is not yet optimal. But it will be okay, I still have several days before my competition. My goals ? I would like to repeat my times or beat them. I haven’t done it yet this season, so I think it’s a good time.“
Camille Henveaux and the Olympic relay?
Finally, the youngest of the delegation is none other than Camille Henveaux, selected to compete in the women’s 4X200m freestyle relay. An event in which the Belgians are looking for Olympic qualification. “Fleur Verdonck is ultimately not there and Lucie Henquet replaces her. This doesn’t make it easy for us because we have to get a place in the Top 16 in the last two world championships. In Fukuoka, the girls finished in 17th place, but some nations were not presentspecifies Lucas’ little sister. For my part, I simply want to do my job and live the experience to the fullest. I have to show myself in my best light. “
If this is the case and her teammates follow suit, Belgium could well have two Henveaux in its Olympic delegation next summer!
