Belgian state raises almost 40 million euros with state bonds: “Best result in 10 years”

The recently issued government bonds were therefore the first in a period of 3 years. They were offered in 5 and 10 year terms. The interest rate was set at 0.70 percent for the 5-year bond and 1.30 percent for the 10-year bond.

Almost 40 million euros was raised in this way. That is the best result in 10 years. Minister of Finance Vincent Van Peteghem (CD&V) is “satisfied that many people have found their way to the guaranteed and safe investment that a government bond offers”.

The government bonds issued in June 2012 yielded 46 million euros. With the “Leterme-bon” (issued at an interest rate of 4 percent during the financial crisis in 2011 under then Prime Minister Yves Leterme) the Treasury raised a record amount of 5.7 billion at the time. The Federal Debt Agency is planning new issues this year on September 4 and December 4.
