Belgian fashion stores will be able to sell their clothes from next year through Zalando’s web store. “Participating stores only need internet and a printer.”

A clothing store from a small Flemish village will soon be able to send clothing via Zalando to customers from Italy, Poland, Denmark or one of the other 17 countries in which the German web store is active. That’s because Zalando will launch its ‘connected retail’ platform in Belgium next year.

The shopkeepers send the parcels from their store.

‘Stores can join and show their products on our webshop’, says Zalando spokeswoman Sarah Thomas. ‘Our customers can then buy the clothes or shoes. The shopkeepers send the parcels from their store. In principle, every fashion store can participate, because you only need internet and a printer. Abroad, for example, we work together with Tommy Hilgifer. ‘ Zalando earns money because the stores and retail chains have to hand over part of the purchase price to the web store giant.

LolaLiza

In addition, Zalando announced a collaboration with the Belgian clothing chain LolaLiza on Wednesday. LolaLiza now also sells its clothing in the Netherlands, Germany, Austria, Spain, Italy, Finland and Ireland. LolaLiza sends clothes to the Zalando warehouses and the Germans do the rest.

“It is a way for us to sell clothes outside of Belgium,” says LolaLiza CEO Joachim Rubin. ‘We do not rule out the possibility of opening our own stores in those countries in the long term.’

Because Zalando takes care of the sales, LolaLiza does not have the data of the customers. But that’s okay, says CEO Rubin. ‘Zalando is a 21st-century shopping center, and we want to be there. Moreover, Zalando does share some crucial information with us, such as where which clothing is popular. ‘
