Belgian Police Search for Former Soldier Threatening Prime Minister De Croo

On Friday, the Belgian police are looking for a former soldier who threatened Prime Minister Alexander De Croo with death on social media. Among other things, he posted a video on Facebook in which he shoots a photo of the prime minister.

It is not clear whether the man in the video shoots with a real weapon, but the Belgian police take the threat very seriously. It would be a 31-year-old man who was with the 18th Logistics Battalion, writes VRT NWS.

The images show how the ex-soldier shoots some holes in De Croo’s image. In a subsequent video, the man says he is in Norway hiding from the army. According to neighbors, the man has psychological problems, writes a regional newspaper from Belgium. On social media, he has left a message that sounds like a farewell message.

The man is still missing. The area around his home in Leopoldsburg, Belgium, has been cordoned off and is being searched. Earlier, the police announced that the man’s home was found empty. The police suspect that he is in the Norwegian capital Oslo.

The man was fired from the army last month because he was said to be a member of a criminal motorcycle gang. He would also have been involved in planning an attack on a Belgian politician. That attack was never carried out.

The home of the former soldier is not far from the area where Jürgen Conings lived. The heavily armed non-commissioned officer disappeared two years ago and left a message that he had targeted corona advisors and other senior officials. After a month-long search, Conings was found dead in a forest. The man had taken his own life.
