Belgian police search for a premature baby and his parents

In Belgium, the police are looking for a premature baby. The boy named Santiago disappeared from a French hospital near Paris on Monday night and is believed to have been taken to Belgium by his parents.

Santiago is eighteen days old. His parents are suspected to have kidnapped their child from the maternity hospital, writes the Flemish broadcaster VRT. It is not clear why they arrested him.

The boy was taken from the maternity ward at a hospital in Aulnay-sous-Bois on Monday evening. Surveillance footage shows the parents leaving with a bag. Maybe the baby was hidden in there. There may have been three more people in the car in which they left.

Santiago needs constant medical care. A French police source told the AFP news agency that the boy could only live for twelve hours without medical attention.

The search notice can be seen on the digital signs above the Belgian motorways. Police are asking people to look out for a blue Audi with a French license plate.

People who see the car driving should contact the police. The police emphasize that people should not implicate themselves.

Police in France have now arrested five people. These are good friends for the parents between 16 and 29. The parents themselves have not been found yet.
