Belgian Police Arrest Seven Dutch Men in Van with Weapons, Suspected Cocaine Link

Oct 18, 2023 at 11:42 am

The Belgian police crashed a van with heavily armed men on Tuesday evening. The vehicle had a Dutch license plate and drove through Antwerp. Seven Dutch people have been arrested, the Antwerp Public Prosecutor’s Office confirmed to NU.nl.

The arrested men are between 20 and 35 years old. Small arms, among other things, were found in the vehicle, the Public Prosecutor’s Office spokesperson said.

Of Gazette of Antwerp writes that it may be an “armed commando” that came to retrieve seized cocaine. According to the newspaper, the hard drugs are stored near the intersection where the police were waiting for the group.

“They crashed the van in no time, it was exactly like in the movies,” a local resident told the newspaper. “The occupants tried to flee, but were arrested one by one.”

The police in Antwerp do not yet want to go into detail about the case. The Public Prosecution Service also does not want to say anything substantive, except that the case is being investigated, as is the possible link with hard drugs.
