GLASGOW. All Bianca Salming’s chances for a top position disappeared after the pentathlon long jump where she came hopelessly last.

She ended up second last of the nine girls in the pentathlon, which was won by Belgian Noor Vidts.

No, it just continues to go slowly for Bianca who was nowhere near her recent record streak from Tallinn on February 4th.

Then she reached 4,533 points and moved up to second all-time in Sweden behind the sovereign Carolina Klüft.

In the WC there were “only” 4,317 points.

Heavy in the long jump

Bianca came to the indoor WC with a real medal chance and it became even bigger when the world number one Maria Vicente from Spain disappeared already during the second high jump event.

But Bianca has not come close to any of her results in her record streak.

It started sluggishly with a weak 8.95 in the 60 hurdles, continued with a 1.82 in height which was enough for victory in the event but still not on par with what she can do.

The same in shot put where she hit 13.93, compared to 14.73 in Tallinn.

Nor in the long jump was she close to the 5.91 she jumped in Estonia.

Belgian victor

In the final 800-meter race, Bianca Salming took the lead at the halfway mark, but then faded and finished sixth in 2:17.28.

The total score of 4,317 points was enough for a modest eighth place out of nine starters.

Belgian Noor Vidts won the gold on 4,773 points.

The Finnish Saga Vanninen took home the silver with 4,677 points and the Dutch Sofie Dokter the bronze with 4,571 points.
