The first edition of the European Championship took place in Belgium two years ago, this year it was Chéniers’ turn to welcome the most beautiful neck carpets. In addition to Vanderkelen, several Belgians took part in the competition. “A year and a half ago we had a mullet cut. It is a symbol of self-mockery and we don’t take ourselves too seriously,” said one participant.

The mullet – better known as neck tape – is a hairstyle in which the back of the hair is a lot longer. The haircut was especially popular in the eighties, but also this weekend a hundred fans showed up for the European Championship. In the end it was truck driver Nicolas Vanderkelen who was chosen as the winner on the basis of an applause meter.
