Belgian Naomi Velissariou wins most important Dutch stage prize

Emmanuele Ohene Boafo received the Louis d’Or, the stage prize for the best male lead, for “Sea Wall” from Het Nationale Theater. “Due to his open, loving play, death comes in very hard in this performance. In this intimate monologue you can experience his pain and his struggle with that pain very closely. That is beautiful and indescribably sad,” says the jury report.

The Theo d’Or and the Louis d’Or are an initiative of the Association of Theater and Concertgebouw Directors (VSCD). They are named after the stage legends Theo Mann-Bouwmeester and her brother Louis Bouwmeester.

They were awarded on Saturday evening at the Gala of the Nederlands Theater, which was broadcast online from the ITA in Amsterdam. The winners were chosen from the nominees of the 2019-2020 and 2020-2021 theater seasons. Last year there was no award ceremony due to corona.
