In Belgium, fifty bags of cocaine were found in December at the office of the French-speaking Minister of Education Caroline Désir. Belgian media report this. An employee has been arrested on suspicion of drug trafficking.

On December 15, the minister was informed of the suspicion against the employee. A day later, her employees searched the colleague’s office and all places in the building where he was allowed to go. After the discovery of “fifty bags of white powder” the investigating judge was contacted. The police also searched the office, but found nothing else. The bags found were taken away.

Dismissal proceedings were immediately initiated against the arrested employee due to a breach of trust.

The news came out last night via the French-language newspaper The last hour. The suspect is reportedly the son of Fadila Laanan, a former minister and current Brussels MP.

Désir is from the social democratic PS, just like Laanan. The newspaper The morning expects that the case will “in any case hurt” the PS. “The party is facing a challenging election year and feels the hot breath of the PTB on its neck,” writes De Morgen. The PTB is a far-left, communist-oriented party that is the largest in polls.
