Belgian King Albert Expected to Leave Hospital, Recovering from Dehydration and Blood Infection

The Belgian King Albert may leave the hospital on Wednesday. The Belgian royal palace announced that he can go home after having been admitted for eight days.

The 89-year-old Albert, father of the current King Philippe, was admitted last week with dehydration symptoms. He also contracted a blood infection, for which he was treated in recent days.

A few days after his hospitalization, the royal palace announced that Albert’s health was improving. The newspaper The last news then reported that the hospital did not want to take any risks because of Albert’s advanced age and that he was therefore still in the hospital.

King Albert was head of state of Belgium from 1993 to 2013. He still bears the title of king in Belgium.
