Belgium is tightening the corona measures due to rising figures. There will be a mouth cap obligation in shops again and the corona pass will soon be needed in catering and gyms.

“We see an accelerated autumn wave in our country and around us,” said Prime Minister Alexander De Croo. “We are facing a sharp rise in the numbers, faster than expected.”

The so-called Consultation Committee of the various governments met early on Tuesday to discuss the situation. It has been agreed that from Friday the mouth cap must be worn again in publicly accessible indoor spaces such as shops, government buildings and museums. It is also strongly recommended to work from home.

Another big change is that visitors to catering and gyms throughout the country will have to show the corona pass from 1 November. This has been the case in Wallonia and Brussels for some time, but not yet in Flanders, where the vaccination coverage is very high worldwide. The Flemish government has previously strongly opposed what it called the ‘pass company’.
