Belgian gets top job at McDonald’s | Inland

The Belgian Manu Steijaert gets a top position at the world’s largest fast food chain McDonald’s. He will lead a new customer experience team as global chief customer officer and executive vice president, reporting directly to the CEO.




Steijaert has been working for McDonald’s since 2001 and through positions in Belgium, the Netherlands and France, he worked his way up to general manager of the American hamburger chain in the Netherlands, a role he held from 2015 to 2019. In that year he took it one step further. and as vice president he was put in charge of operations in twelve European countries.

His first professional experiences with McDonald’s go back much further. Steijaert’s parents were franchisees of the chain in Belgium, so he started working in their restaurants as early as 1987.

From 1 August, Steijaert will receive a top post within the board of directors in Chicago, USA. This is a new position – Chief Consumer Officer – as the head of a team dedicated to customer experience, reporting directly to CEO Chris Kempczinski. The team must bring together the insights of the various departments that deal with customer data and marketing, among other things.

“The formation of the customer experience team strengthens McDonald’s ability to lead the industry in anticipating and responding to customer needs,” said Kempczinski. According to the CEO, activities “beyond the walls of physical restaurants” are becoming increasingly important and digital platforms provide more “insights”. “Manu’s deep understanding of our customers’ needs and his rich experience from multiple markets will be invaluable.”
