The highest football league in Belgium will most likely not be resumed. The board of organizer Pro League advises on Thursday to end the season and to proclaim league-leader Club Brugge as champion.
The advice is yet to be ratified on April 15 at a general meeting of all clubs. It is not yet clear what will happen with the cup final, promotion / relegation and European football tickets, the Pro League said in a statement.
In the Jupiler Pro League, one more round is scheduled in the regular season. After that, playoffs have to take place. Club Brugge from captain Ruud Vormer takes the lead after 29 duels with a fifteen-point lead over number two KAA Gent.
Last week, 17 of the 24 Belgian professional clubs already wrote an open letter to the Pro League with the call to provide clarity as soon as possible. They had a clear preference: no more football this season because of the corona crisis.
The highest basketball league in Belgium was stopped three weeks ago. Despite the strike, a champion was also appointed there.

UEFA wants competitions to be completed
European football association UEFA urgently asked the 55 national federations in a conference call on Wednesday to try to finish the national competitions.
The KNVB is looking at options to finish the Eredivisie and the Kitchen Champion Division in the summer, but also does not exclude the termination of competitions.
