Belgian evacuation operation from Afghanistan in full swing: at least 1 C-130 lifted off in Kabul

Defense is very scant with information about the evacuation operation. This has to do with security considerations and the situation at and around Kabul airport. Access to the airport is made more difficult by Taliban checkpoints, which means that many people simply cannot get into the airport.

There are currently 580 people on the Belgian evacuation list, including 344 Belgians and 222 Afghans. It remains unclear for the time being who can be evacuated today. That may depend on who manages to make it to the airport.

Anyone on the list has received or will receive a message from the Belgian embassy in Islamabad. It contains more details on how to get to the airport. For security reasons, as little information as possible is also released about this. What we do know is that people must carry supplies for 48 hours, their identity card, a charged mobile phone and one piece of hand luggage.
