Belgian drug kingpin after granddaughter’s death: ‘We will respond, but without violence’ | Abroad

The 11-year-old who died in a shooting in Antwerp on Monday night is a granddaughter of Belgian drug lord Othman EB. Antwerp Gazette let EB know there will be a backlash, but it won’t be violent.

After the incident, Antwerp mayor Bart De Wever expressed fears that the attack could lead to further violence.

“We will respond, but not in the way the mayor of Antwerp thinks,” EB said on Monday from Dubai, where he has lived for nearly a decade. “We will look for the perpetrators together with the police and the judiciary”.

According to the man, wanted by the Belgian judiciary for cocaine trafficking, revenge is not a problem. He also denies involvement in drug trafficking and underworld practices. “I dare say with a wide mouth that I have never dealt with any violence.”

EB’s sister’s daughter Naziha was killed when their home was attacked. EB says he doesn’t know why her sister’s house was shot up.

Belgian Justice Minister Vincent Van Quickenborne took to Twitter about the dire news. “An innocent child died. Several other children are seriously injured. The drug mafia can’t get any deeper than this. The police and prosecutors are doing everything to find and punish those responsible.”

EB’s brother Younes has been convicted of drug trafficking in the past. Years ago he was kidnapped by French criminals, allegedly on behalf of a Dutch drug lord. Othman EB provided police with information leading to the arrest of the kidnappers.
