- Furthermore, it was Caroline Lamarche, author of “La Asturiana”, and Alfonso Garcia, head of the Historical Archive of Asturiana de Zinc SA
Avilés, March 7, 2024. The Niemeyer Center hosted the visit of a Belgian diplomatic delegation, led by Maxime Couvreur, General Delegate of Wallonia-Brussels in Spain, who toured the different buildings of the Avilesian cultural space together with the head of the Historical Archive of Asturiana de Zinc SA, Alfonso Garcia; the writer Caroline Lamarche; the journalist Mario Bango and the general director of the Niemeyer Center, Carlos Cuadros.
The General Delegación Valonia-Bruselas en España is responsible for the diplomatic and institutional representation of the governments of the Federación Valonia-Bruselas y de Valonia before the Spanish authorities, both at national and regional level, as well as in Portugal.
The visit of the writer Caroline Lamarche, daughter, granddaughter, great-granddaughter and great-great-granddaughter of the founders of the Royal Asturian Mines Company (RCA), today Asturiana de Zinc, coincides with the presentation of her book “La Asturiana” (KRK Ediciones, 2023 ) this week in bookstores in Piedras Blancas, Gijón and Oviedo.
Lamarche recounts the saga of a family that appears in Liege at the beginning of the Industrial Revolution and that was a pioneer of zinc metallurgy in Asturias. Through a journey through an era that heralds great capitalism and its entourage of inequalities, the author recounts the work and days of those adventurers, at the forefront of a Europe that still harbored dreams of expansion. The strong personalities she addresses, the female voices she transmits, and the tribute to a father who opened the way to her archives make Caroline Lamarche the heir to an exciting and cosmopolitan family legend.
