Belgian CEO of Roompot hits the ground running with the acquisition of holiday park player Landal

The Dutch Roompot buys its sector partner Landal Greenparks and becomes one of the largest players in Europe with 300 holiday parks and 25 million overnight stays per year.

With the takeover, Roompot wants to develop a pan-European organization with a holiday offer on the coast, in the woods and in the mountains. Over the years, Roompot has built up a strong position in Central and Southern Europe. Landal is now also adding countries in Northern and Central Europe, including Hungary, Austria, Switzerland and Denmark.

The merged group will operate 300 holiday parks across Europe. These are partly owned by the group and partly owned by investors or private individuals who have their real estate rented out by Roompot.

The parks account for almost 25 million euros overnight stays per year. The group has more than 30,000 holiday accommodations, including luxury villas, beach pavilions, tiny houses and camping pitches with furnished tents at farmers.

‘We see great international growth potential in the joint development of our activities as a developer, operator, landlord and seller of holiday homes, parks and locations’, says Jurgen Van Cutsem, the Belgian CEO of Roompot since 2014.

Both brands have three parks in Belgium, and Roompot has already purchased land for a fourth park in Oudenaarde.

How much Roompot will pay for the takeover is not disclosed. But with the American investment group KKR as owner, it certainly has the necessary firepower to make big deals. KKR bought Roompot last year from its French peer PAI. There were then rumors that Roompot was valued at 1 billion euros.

Roompot has existed for more than half a century and was founded in Kamperland in Zeeland, where it started with one campsite on the coast with 150 pitches. Until recently, the coastal village was still Roompot’s headquarters. Last year, about 400 employees moved into a new office building further down in Goes.
