Belgian bus manufacturer Van Hool only builds electric buses – Image and sound – News

The Belgian bus manufacturer Van Hool will only make zero-emission buses that work with batteries, fuel cells or overhead wires. The manufacturer now has 13 orders for a total of 162 electric buses, including for the Flemish public transport company De Lijn.

Van Hool says against the VRT to prepare for a more environmentally friendly future and therefore to stop making diesel and gas buses. That is why only hydrogen or battery buses are made, or electric trolley buses. The manufacturer makes both buses for public transport companies and coaches for businesses and tourism, for example.

Although Van Hool now has 13 orders, this only concerns those public transport buses. This concerns, for example, buses that will be used in Belgium, but electric Van Hool buses must also be used in Paris and Sweden, for example. The market for coaches remains small, mainly due to the consequences of corona for tourism.

For the electric buses, Van Hool has Thursday new ‘A series’ buses introduced. These are buses that can work with batteries, hydrogen or overhead wires and are 12 to 24 meters long. These are the buses for which the company now has orders. The manufacturer wants to announce more about the A series buses on Tuesday.

The manufacturer also has several coach buses in its range. Last November, it showed its first battery-electric double-decker coach. The TDX25E can travel up to 500 kilometers on a single battery charge and can accommodate 69 passengers. This bus is intended for the American market.
