The Belgian federal public prosecutor’s office arrested three more suspects on Monday after five house searches. They were arrested in connection with an investigation into the attack on two Swedish football supporters on October 16. Various Belgian media report this.
“Two of them were charged by the investigating judge with murder in a terrorist context and participation in the activities of a terrorist group,” Belgian media quoted the spokesperson for the federal public prosecutor’s office. “The third was suspected of violations of the weapons law.”
The arrests took place according to the Belgian newspaper The standard took place as part of a search for the origin of the weapons that Abdesalem L. used in the attack. It involved two handguns and an AR-15. The latter is a semi-automatic rifle from the United States.
A taxi driver was also injured in L.’s attack. The suspect himself was shot dead by the police when they tried to arrest him in a café. On the day of the attack, Islamic State claimed responsibility. L. himself also said that he was a member of the terrorist group.
People have been arrested several times in connection with the attack.
Threat level in Belgium remains at three
The Belgian government announced on Wednesday that the threat level in Belgium remains at level three.
The reason they give is that the investigation into the attack is still ongoing and therefore the threat level remains the same. The highest possible threat level in Belgium is level four.
