The Belgian AP Hogeschool has been hit by a cyber attack. The campuses in Antwerp, Mechelen, Turnhout and Lier therefore remain closed today. It is not known exactly what affected the educational institution.
The attack took place on the night from Tuesday to Wednesday, writes the Hogeschool in a short blog post. Much information is not yet known. For example, it is not clear what type of attack has hit the school, and whether data has been stolen or encrypted. The University of Applied Sciences could not immediately provide substantive answers to questions from Tweakers. The school could ‘have intervened quickly’, but there is still ‘looking for a solution’ together with external companies.
The AP Hogeschool is keeping the four campuses in Antwerp, Mechelen, Turnhout and Lier closed today. The school is urging students not to come to those campuses. If they are there, they may ‘under no circumstances turn on computers’. The school takes this measure to prevent further spread through the network.
Students will receive digital lessons at least on Wednesday. systems such as Microsoft Teams, e-mail, Digitap and Panopto can still be used. The e-campus cannot be used, just like administrative systems.
