Belgian amusement parks extend oral mask obligation

The amusement parks Bellewaerde, Bobbejaanland and Plopsaland expand the wearing of a mouth mask in their park. In Bellewaerde and the Plopsa parks, the obligation applies to the entire park.

“Until now, face masks have been mandatory with us on a dozen attractions and in certain covered areas, now they become mandatory on all attractions, in all covered areas and when traveling in the catering industry,” says Peggy Verelst, spokeswoman for Bobbejaanland.

‘A mouth mask is not mandatory on the hiking trails. Those paths are wide enough and where not, there is one-way traffic. We have only reached 60 percent of our capacity and that is why the distance can be guaranteed on the hiking trails, we have already determined. ‘

Bellewaerde reports that from now on, face masks are mandatory in the entire park. Before that, it was already mandatory on rides and queues, and there was also additional monitoring to ensure that all rules were respected.

“We make sure that everything runs safely,” says marketing director Filip Van Dorpe. ‘The visitors observe the measures well. There is little contradiction. If someone refuses to wear a mask, that person is expelled from the park. We notice that visitors appreciate this, they sometimes also speak to others about it. It contributes to the feeling of security. “

From Saturday, all visitors from the age of twelve in the Belgian parks of the Plopsa Group (Plopsa De Panne, Plopsa Coo in the Ardennes, Plopsa Indoor Hasselt) wear a mouth mask. “Wearing a mouth mask starts from visitors getting out of their car and it should be held until they return home,” said CEO Steve Van den Kerkhof, who also states that additional stewards will be deployed to check.

‘We naturally follow government regulations for the restaurants. People will only be able to move with a mouth mask, it is not mandatory at the table. It is a drastic but temporary measure that we will take as long as the figures continue to rise. ‘

The maximum capacity is also temporarily reduced, from 30 to 40 percent to 25 to 30 percent of the normal capacity. In addition, all visitors will also be registered. Road markings must guarantee the necessary distance, disinfection teams are constantly active, and visitors are being warned ‘in every possible way’ to comply with standard measures such as frequent disinfection and washing of the hands.
