Belfort suspended by ABOP; have to say sorry to Brunswijk

ABOP toppers Edward Belfort and Ronnie Brunswijk

On a Friday board meeting of the General Liberation and Development Party (ABOP), it was decided to suspend board member Edward Belfort for 6 weeks. This in response to statements made by him about the party and chairman Ronnie Brunswijk.

According to ABOP spokesman Humphrey Dundas, 18 of the 19 people present voted in favor of the suspension. One board member abstained from voting.

Belfort must publicly apologize to the party and the ABOP chairman within 6 weeks. If he does not do this, the board will meet again to discuss the next steps.

Belfort has been fiercely critical of the party leadership for some time, especially party leader and vice president Ronnie Brunswijk. He has been invited several times by the central management of his party for an interview, but don’t go into that. Although invited, he was also not present at the meeting on Friday.
