Tojner vehemently denies the allegations. The news magazine quotes in its current issue from files on the case of the former Vienna planning spokesman for the Greens, Christoph Chorherr. According to this, there are supposed to be emails from Tojner that point to a substantive connection between the dedication of the Heumarkt project in the Vienna City Council and a 5,000 euro donation to the Chorherr’s school project association.
2017 email traffic
The news magazine refers to an email correspondence from 2017. On the day of approval in the city parliament, an employee of Tojner’s group of companies wrote to the investor: “Vassi (note: the then Green Vice Mayor Maria Vassilakou) and canon good!”. A day later, the employee wrote again to Tojner under the subject “outstanding amounts”: “You also wanted to donate 5000 euros when dedicating ITHUBA (…)”.
“Ithuba” is the name of the school project run by the s2arch canon association at the time. In fact, Tojner donated the amount of 5,000 euros to s2arch at the end of June 2017. Apparently the payment was made during a birthday auction. According to the mail, however, it had been planned for a long time. Tojner’s lawyer Karl Liebenwein said in general on profile request: “As far as individual donations to the aid project of Dr. Christoph Chorherr gave in Africa, these were always openly shown as support services and were never linked to any expectations or even consideration. “
Tojner lawyer: “Unsteady and incorrect”
Tojner vehemently denies all allegations. Liebenwein announced that Tojner and his group of companies had at no time had the intention of influencing official business of the City of Vienna in any way. “The claim that our client or his company (…) would have given an official an undue advantage or wanted to give it is downright absurd and we expressly reject it as unfounded and incorrect.”
The allegation that “in connection with the ‘Heumarkt Neu’ ‘project there were inadmissible donation payments or other irregularities!”
ÖVP and FPÖ demand quick clarification
The Vienna ÖVP reacted horrified. “At that time we suspected inconsistencies in the dedication of the Heumarkt project. The latest indications that the fundraising affair surrounding Christoph Chorherr might be behind it, emphasizes our demand for an immediate, complete clarification ”, said planning spokeswoman Elisabeth Olischar in a broadcast.
FPÖ state party leader Dominik Nepp demanded reporting for major projects. “The Heumarkt project is to be stopped and reopened until all allegations have been finally clarified – including those relating to the complex of colorful living”, he demanded.
