The OSVOD branch of the Moskovsky district of Minsk reported that with the approach of winter, ice will appear on the reservoirs of Belarus, which means it is time for Belarusians to remember the rules of conduct on frozen rivers and lakes.
They reminded that it is prohibited to enter the ice if it is less than 7 centimeters thick, as well as during the period of its intensive melting and destruction.
OSVOD reminded that crossing water bodies on ice should only be done in places where there are equipped crossings. There they asked not to go out on the ice in a snowstorm or in the dark.
“During ice fishing, it is not recommended to make many holes at close range, jump and run on the ice, or gather in large groups,” asked OSVOD (apparently, the organization knows something about ice fishing enthusiasts).
“Every fisherman, when going ice fishing, is recommended to have with him a life jacket and a line (rope) 15-20 meters long with a loop at one end and a weight weighing 400-500 grams at the other,” OSVOD urged.
“If you fall through the ice, you should act quickly and decisively: throw a line attached to your belt towards the shore, spread your arms wide towards the edge of the ice and, without sudden movements, try to get out onto solid ice,” the organization advised, adding that then, If you fall into the water, you should lie on your stomach or back and move towards the shore, while simultaneously calling for help.
“When providing assistance to someone who has fallen through the ice, you should use ladders, boards, poles, ropes and other available means by handing them to the victim. In this case, you should approach it while lying down, crawling, preferably leaning on objects that increase the support area. If there are two or more rescuers, then it is better to form a chain, holding each other’s legs,” said OSVOD.
Earlier, Telegraf reported that in the Novobelitsky district of Gomel on February 8, a taxi with a passenger fell through the ice. The local OSVOD reported this and showed photographs.
