In 2021, the problem of illegal migration from the countries of the Middle East has escalated in the EU countries bordering Belarus. At first, the EU stated that Belarus deliberately weakened control over the border on its part, later, Alexander Lukashenko, who considers himself the president of Belarus, was accused not only of weakening control, but of organizing illegal migration flows.
Head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine Denis Monastyrsky believes that the migration crisis on the Belarusian-Polish border created artificially by the special services of the Russian Federation. In his opinion, Russia can organize the transfer of these migrants from Belarus to Ukraine. The minister noted that Ukraine is preparing for such a scenario and has already deployed the operational reserves of the National Guard and the National Police to protect the border. Monastyrsky also reported in November that in the regions of Ukraine bordering Belarus, may declare a state of emergencybut so far there is no need for it.
At the end of November 2021, on the Ukrainian-Belarusian border, a special operation “Polesie”, the purpose of which was to prevent illegal migrants from crossing the border. The National Guard, the National Police, the Armed Forces of Ukraine and border guards took part in it. In December, in the Rivne region, units of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine worked protecting the border from a breakthrough of migrants from Belarus.
