Belarusian President Lukashenko meets with opposition in prison

Opponents of the president see the strange prison meeting as proof that Lukashenko is weakened. He tries to take the wind out of the sails with this, it sounds. Opposition leader and former presidential candidate Svetlana Tikhanovskaya, who was forced to leave the country and now resides in Lithuania, says that through his meeting, Lukashenko “acknowledges the existence of political prisoners, whom he previously labeled as criminals.”
