Belarusian Foreign Minister Vladimir Makei has died

Jakarta

Foreign Minister Belarus Vladimir Makei is dead. The death of Vladimir Makei is called sudden.

Reported by Reuters, on Saturday (11/26/2022) information about the death of Vladimir Makei was broadcast by the state news agency Belta.

“Foreign Minister Vladimir Makei died suddenly,” Belta said without giving further details.

Vladimir Makei is known to have held his post since 2012. He died at the age of 64.

Vladimir Makei is known to be attending a conference of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) – a military alliance of several post-Soviet countries – in Yerevan earlier this week. In addition, he will also meet with Russia’s Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov next Monday.

He said that before the presidential election and mass anti-government protests in Belarus in 2020, Makei had been one of the initiators of attempts to improve Belarusian relations with the West and criticized Russia.

However, he abruptly changed sides after the protests began, saying they were inspired by Western agents.
