Details: Together with Hungary, Lukashenko accepted credentials from the ambassadors of 10 more countries – Kazakhstan, Egypt, Zimbabwe, Equatorial Guinea, Angola, Uganda, Cambodia, the Philippines, Jordan and Colombia.

During the acceptance of credentials from the Hungarian ambassador, the self-proclaimed Belarusian president stated that “Hungary is a long-time and reliable friend of Belarus, relations with which, having passed the test of time, are built on a pragmatic and mutually respectful basis.”

“We are ready to continue the dialogue with Hungary with the aim of de-escalating tensions in the region by resolving controversial issues only through peaceful negotiations,” BelTA quotes Lukashenko as saying.

Earlier in September Zita Ilona Bencik presented copies of her credentials to the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Belarus Sergei Aleynik, which also happened for the first time for an EU member state since 2020.

Budapest remains one of the few in the West that has official contact with the Lukashenko regime. Hungarian Foreign Minister Péter Szijjarto visited Belarus in February 2023.
