The motive of the Belarusian, who was detained by the FSB for the terrorist attack on BAM, was self-interest. This was stated today, December 13, by the Chairman of the State Security Committee of Belarus, Ivan Tertel.
“I confirm this fact. We are talking about our citizen, a resident of the Vitebsk region, a former employee of Naftan, who was fired in December 2020 for involvement in extremist activities. The motives are primarily selfish. He was paid certain sums, and even larger ones were promised. In addition, the motive was an inverted consciousness and inverted ideas and values,” he said
According to him, the recruitment of the Belarusian, like some of our other fellow citizens, was carried out remotely by the Ukrainian special services.
“Examples include Vileika, where our citizens were recruited. These include attempts at terrorist attacks in the Minsk and Vitebsk regions, which were shown in the press. Ukrainian special services also use people with mental problems and sick people. This is not a good practice,” Tertel emphasized.
At the same time, he noted that the KGB of Belarus is proud to be the legal successor of the KGB of the USSR.
“There were certain unwritten rules in the world intelligence community. We still adhere to them. For example, one of these rules is not to use children in your work, not to work against the children of employees of the opposing intelligence service, if they are not in the profession. Not everyone follows them; even Americans are starting to move away from them. But we adhere to this principle. And the Ukrainian side uses this moment, and the Baltic states do not respect it either,” says the head of the Belarusian KGB.
Tertel also said that the detained Belarusian is currently under investigation.
“We also take part in this and understand the situation, taking into account the fact that this is our citizen. In order not to harm the investigation, I cannot disclose certain points. But I would like to warn our citizens that this is a serious crime. According to Russian law, the punishment is up to life imprisonment. And in our case we are talking about the death penalty. These are especially serious crimes, I want to warn our citizens that not a single one of them remains unsolved,” he emphasized and added that such crimes can be prevented on Belarusian territory.
At the same time, Tertel called on “our citizens to be vigilant and not get drawn into the games of foreign intelligence services.
“The same terrorist organization BYPOL is fully funded by the SBU. We know the employees who instruct and work there,” the KGB chairman concluded.
Let us recall that on November 29 and 30, terrorist attacks occurred on the Baikal-Amur Mainline when two trains carrying oil products were blown up in Buryatia. Russian law enforcement officers detained the perpetrator, who turned out to be a 52-year-old Belarusian. During interrogation, the man said that when planting explosive devices, he was carrying out the tasks of his compatriot, who now lives in Lithuania and works under the control of the Lithuanian special services.
