There were no such attempts at all on Tuesday. On Monday, 23 illegal migrants tried to enter Lithuania from the prohibited places, on Sunday – 24, on Saturday – 14, on Friday – 30, and on Thursday – 33.
No foreigners were allowed into Lithuania on humanitarian grounds on Wednesday.
The SBGS has released footage of the story of an illegal migrant, an Iraqi citizen. Together with his compatriots, he tried to enter Lithuania from Belarus within the territory of Druskininkai municipality in an unauthorized place on Wednesday.
There were 8 men and a woman in the group detained by the resort’s border guards. An Iraqi told SBGS officials how migrants were transported to the camp on the Belarusian side and from there to the Lithuanian border by different means. The foreigner also testified about the pressure of Belarusian officials to cross the Lithuanian border illegally.
The migrants did not need help, they wore clothes that corresponded to the time of year and were not frozen and quietly followed the instructions of the border guards of Druskininkai.
SBGS officials handed over humanitarian packages of food, water and other items to Iraqis. At that time, foreigners were refused entry to Lithuania and returned to Belarus.
At about noon, one shot was fired at the border on the Belarusian side in the Lazdijai district.
Migrants not admitted to SBGS officers on Wednesday said they had been transported to the border by Belarusian border guards.
