In the fight against the ruler Alexander Lukashenko in Belarus, the opposition leader Svetlana Tichanovskaya has called on the International Monetary Fund (IMF) to stop financial aid for the power apparatus in Minsk. In a letter to IMF boss Kristalina Georgieva, Tichanovskaya demanded that Lukashenko’s “regime” be denied access to the funds. Accordingly, the country, which has been sanctioned by the EU and the USA, currently wants to claim a special drawing right (SDR) from the IMF of one billion US dollars (around 860 million euros).
