Belarus has closed its western borders with neighboring countries Poland and Lithuania and has stepped up border controls with Ukraine. President Aleksandr Lukashenko (66) said on Thursday that he felt compelled to do so.

He was referring to exercises of NATO troops near his country’s border, which, according to the 66-year-old Belarusian leader, will be given an extension. “Stop your mindless politicians, don’t let them start war,” was his message to the residents of the three countries, according to Belarusian state news agency Belta.
