The Bekasi Regency AIDS Prevention Commission (KPA) conducted sexual and reproductive health outreach and basic introduction to HIV/AIDS at 20 junior high school levels in Bekasi Regency.
NORTH CIKARANG – The Bekasi Regency AIDS Prevention Commission (KPA), collaborates with the Bekasi Regency Education Office to provide an understanding of sexual and reproductive health and HIV/AIDS prevention. There are around 20 state and private junior high schools (SMP) that are targeted by the Bekasi Regency KPA.
“This program really focuses on preventing school children at the age of 15 years, which we start from middle school age. Because 15 years old means middle school class 2, what we give first is about reproductive health, because they have entered puberty, ” explained the Head of the Bekasi Regency KPA Secretariat, Ade Barwono, at his office, North Cikarang, on Friday (06/10/2023).
Ade said that material about HIV and AIDS was also given to the students. Such as how HIV transmission occurs, prevention down to impact and anti-discrimination.
“So, of the 20 schools, we have visited several schools, such as SMPN 1 and 2 Tambun Selatan, SMPN 4 Cibitung, SMPN 2 Tambun Utara, SMPN 4 Setu, SMPN 5 Cibarusah, SMP Al Azhar Syifa Budi Legenda, SMPN 2 Central Cikarang, SMPN 8 Cibitung, and yesterday at SMPN 1 Tambelang, we will also provide education at other junior high schools,” he said.
Ade said that those who have been given an understanding of this connection are expected to become ambassadors or agents of the KPA who can disseminate information and knowledge about Reproductive Health (Kespro) and HIV/AIDS without having to involve the Bekasi Regency KPA.
“Also in 2022, there will be several representatives of high school level students, whom we will make cadres as an extension of KPA, at the next event they can socialize independently, they also often come to KPA to increase their understanding capacity,” he explained.
Ade hopes that in the future the role of education among students will not only be carried out by relevant stakeholders. But these students can educate their peers among themselves.
According to Ade, in the future, if students find someone in their environment who is infected with HIV, they will not do things that discriminate against that person.
“And our hope is that if any of them are diagnosed with HIV at school, there will no longer be discrimination among them,” he concluded.
