Beitar Jerusalem is to be bought by a French businessman

Beitar Jerusalem will be sold to French businessman Stéphane Melloul, the Israeli football club announced in a statement on Thursday.

Beitar in trouble

Current owner Moshe Hogeg announced in September 2021 his intention to retire from the club. He was arrested by the police and later indicted on charges of fraud, pimping and sex crimes.

Beitar, who have won the national title six times, are currently going through a financial and sporting crisis, ranking 11th in the Championship (out of 14) with only 16 points in 17 matches.
