Beirut art documentary films: return to Pasolini

Eight years ago the first version of Festival “Beirut Art and Documentary Films.” Despite the crises, epidemics and explosions that the city experienced in this period, which changed its characteristics, the demonstration continued in previous years.

Today the festival returns to relaunch itself in its eighth edition and its activities will continue until the eighteenth of this month. Ten days, it will bring with it more than 40 performances, as well as seminars, discussion sessions and artistic performances.

The activities of this course take place at the “Samir Abi Al-Lamaa Amphitheater” and at the “Abdullah Lahoud Foundation” of the “Lebanese Academy of Fine Arts”. Offers to be completed default (Online) through the “Zoom” platform, starting from next December 4th until September 24th 2023.

As every year, the festival chooses a global artistic figure to have the event titled after him as a step of honor, a version that bore the name of the late Italian writer and director. Pier Paolo Pasolini (1922 – 1975), which this year marks the centenary of his birth.

The events related to the owner of “Mama Roma” (1962) are organized in four days, and each of them deals with an aspect of her work, according to four themes: “Pasolini and mythology”, “Pasolini and poetry”, “Pasolini and Cinema “, and” Pasolini and Politics “. . The event also sheds light on the life of the Italian director through two conferences: “Pasolini: Eternal Youth” by the Italian writer Roberto Didier, and the “non-poetic poet” by Frenchman Paul Manier.

It is expected that a series of tapes made by the late, such as: “The Tramp” (1961), “Theory” (1967), “Media” (1969), and others dealing with his biography, such as the signed work of Hala Habashi and titled “If I Return: Ernst Benon Ernst and the Character of Pasolini” (2016).

The event was also planned by two round tables: the first brings together the researcher and photographer Hoda Kassatly with the researcher Joseph Rostom, on the role of the image in the preservation of antiquities. The second is related to the film “3000 Nights” directed by Mai Masri, with Hadi Zakak and Zina Daccache reunited.

In addition to the above, several films will be held at the festival, including: “Botticelli: Florence and Medici” by Marco Biangiani, “In search of music” by Sandra Jessi and Ahmed Abdel Mohsen, “Jean-Michel Basquiat: The absolute Artist “by Pierre Paul Polgues and” Douar “The Sun by David Bickerstaff and Oscar Niemeyer: an architect committed to his century by Mark Henry Weinberg, among others.
