1. China Fires Projectiles into the Taiwan Strait
A number of journalists AFP reported that a number of projectiles were fired from a nearby Chinese military installation at around 13:13 local time. The projectile was accompanied by a plume of white smoke and a loud explosion sound on Thursday (4/8).
China’s military itself has declared the start of military exercises in the country.
“Precision strikes were carried out in certain areas of the eastern Taiwan Strait and the expected results were achieved,” the People’s Liberation Army (PLA) Eastern Fleet Command said in a statement Thursday afternoon.
2. As many as 51 Taiwanese flights were canceled during China’s military exercises
Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport announced the cancellation of 51 international flights on Thursday (4/8) during the start of China’s military exercises.
However, the airport refused to admit the cancellation of the flight was done because China was conducting military exercises. The agency said the majority of cancellations were due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
