Shortly after a couple moved into an apartment in Beijing, China, they both fell ill.
According to the news agency Jam Press, the man in the relationship started to lose his hair, and suddenly got a lot of pimples.
His girlfriend is said to have started coughing, and felt discomfort in her chest.

Was amazed
After six months in the apartment, the man discovered that he had not paid a single water bill, writes the news agency.
Nevertheless, the water continued to flow in the taps.
Found dead
When the man, who the news agency only identified here as Tan, checked the water meters, he was amazed that nothing happened when he let the water run in the taps.
What happened, however, was that the gray water meter ran wild.
Greywater is waste water that usually comes from kitchens, bathrooms and laundry rooms.

Horror discovery
The couple called a plumber, who discovered a pipe connecting their toilet to the pipes that ran to the faucets and shower.
It would turn out that the couple had been cooking rice and showering in – and even drinking – toilet water for six months, writes the news agency.
Tan is now demanding compensation from the company they rent the apartment from.
They demand 10,000 yuan renminbi, which is roughly equivalent to 15,000 Norwegian kroner, for every single month they have lived there and drunk lazy water.

Full of bacteria
Drinking toilet water is – perhaps not so surprisingly – dangerous.
The cause is all bacteria originating from, for example, faeces, urine and vomit.
Even if the toilet is flushed after use, residual bacteria, such as E. coli, can cause severe diarrhoea, stomach cramps and skin infections.

Sent to well
The rental company, which has not been named, points out that all tenants in the building in question must fetch drinking water from a nearby well, reports Jam Press.
The couple claim that they were never told about this, and that they cooked, showered and drank water from the tap in good faith.
They have now removed the pipe that connected the toilet to the tap water, and are demanding compensation.
Tan tells the news agency that he is in negotiations with the rental company.
