PNL voted, on Monday evening, in the National Political Bureau, in favor of starting negotiations with PSD, for the formation of a new coalition government, according to G4Media sources. But the talks were heated and divided the party into two camps.
The party president, Florin Cîțu, voted to start negotiations with PSD, although in the campaign for the PNL leadership he had constantly announced that, during his term, he would not form an alliance with the Social Democrats.
Present at the meeting Ludovic Orban he was the most vocal leader against an alliance with PSD, saying that in this case PNL will go below 10% and will remain clinging to the clientele electorate, a catastrophic scenario for the party.
Florin Cîțu he had short interventions during the meeting and told Ludovic Orban to return with the whole team, so as not to reach a vote of exclusion in the future BPN.
We remind you that Ludovic Orban left the PNL parliamentary political group, and his gesture was followed by other liberals, sympathizers of his.
He also had an acid message to Ludovic Orban Gigel Știrbu. The deputy said that the Liberals must forget that Orban can ever return to the PNL and that voting for an alliance with USR will create a strong competing party in Ludovic Orban’s future party. The alliance with USR, Știrbu also said, will give Orban the opportunity to ask for negotiators state secretaries and maybe even a minister.
Orban had no reaction to Gigel Stirbu’s statements.
At the meeting, Alina Gorghiu he claimed that a clear decision must be made, whether the party will go with PSD or USR. She also told Florin Cîțu that there is already a negotiating team that must return to the party with the results of the negotiations.
Ilie Bolojan he was one of the leaders who campaigned for an alliance with USR, for reasons of honor, and Dan Motreanu drew attention to the negative consequences in the case of an alliance with PSD.
Also, several relatives of Florin Cîțu, led by Dan Vîlceanu, supported the start of a negotiation with USR.
According to G4Media, the vote ratio during Monday night’s meeting was as follows: 48 Liberals voted to start negotiations with PSD, and 22 voted against.
Among the liberals who voted against an alliance with PSD are: the president of PNL Bucharest, Ciprian Ciucu, the president of Oradea County Council and leader of PNL Bihor, Ilie Bolojan, the Mayor of Oradea, Florin Birta, the PNL leader Giurgiu, Dan Motreanu, the head of PNL Teleorman , Eugen Pârvulescu, but also Monica Anisie, Ludovic Orban, Antonel Tănase or Raluca Turcan.
There was no abstention.
