Angela is quite secretive about her source, but says she has heard that the presenter is busy behind the scenes. “He’s having conversations with a number of people who have felt insulted over the years. So with editors who may or may not be traumatized by his way of working and demeanor.”

The timing of the conversations is coincidental, according to Angela. “It all runs parallel, of course, with Martin van Rijn’s research into public broadcasting.” The big question is therefore: does Matthijs actually want to make amends or does he simply want to get a white foot? Angela thinks she knows: “It will be a combination of both. And of course he is also working on his return.”

Ultimately, of course, the most important thing is that the conversations yield something for the alleged victims. “I sincerely hope that the people he talks to will benefit them. Because you hear from many victims that they mainly want recognition of their suffering, that seems to help half of it,” says Angela.
